  • Team canvas (45-60 mins) A great way to kick off a new project with a new team. This activity will help you decide what areas you’d like to initially research, and what questions you need to start asking your stakeholders and users. You’ll also need: black markers, sticky notes
  • Root cause (45-60 mins) Identify the most likely root cause of a problem by visually organizing its cause-and-effect relationships. You’ll also need: pens, paper, whiteboard
  • Empathy map (30 mins) A great way to sum up contextual research data and any learnings you’ve collected from and around your users. You’ll also need: four different colors of sticky notes, black markers
  • Customer journey canvas (40-60 mins) A journey map helps your team visualize the entire user journey from start to finish. It helps everyone understand the full story of how people engage with your product or service. You’ll also need: four different colors of sticky notes, markers
  • How might we (30-60 mins) How might we (HMW) is an effective way of turning insights into questions that inspire your team to come up with creative ideas. You’ll also need: pens, sticky notes
  • Problem statement (45 mins) Once you’ve done your first set of interviews and market research, this activity acts like a sense check – helping you look deeply into a problem and identify whether you’re asking yourselves the right questions. You’ll also need: markers, four different colors of sticky notes

  • Crazy eights (45 mins) Create several sketches quickly with this fast-paced drawing exercise. Once you’ve agreed upon the right problems to be solved, these drawings are a powerful tool for generating ideas on how to solve the problem. You’ll also need: markers, blank paper
  • Storyboard (30-45 mins) Traditionally used in film, storyboarding is an effective storytelling format in all sorts of industries. This activity helps you visually demonstrate how your user’s problem is solved in just three frames. It translates how your solution fits into their life, addresses their needs, and impacts their lives. You’ll also need: marks, pencils, blank paper
  • Elevator pitch (20-30 mins) Formulating your pitch in the shape of a value proposition helps you test any assumptions you have against your users’ needs and expectations. You’ll also need: pens, blank paper
  • Role-playing (60 mins) Resolve big debates in minutes. Dot voting is a super flexible activity, helping you make group decisions faster. It democratizes decision-making, as everyone gets to weigh in. You’ll also need: pens, props
